Honolulu, Hawaii

Monday, November 4, 1929

Honolulu means “a district of abundant calm.” Named Sandwich Islands by Cook after Lord Sandwich. There are no snakes, scorpions nor venomous pests on the island of Oahu.

Finished Faris’ Paradise of the Pacific this morning and had 6 rolls of films developed. About all came out very well. Called on Mr. Phillips and learned he had received a wire that morning from Washington giving me official permission to go on the Ethan Allan. Ship is late—due probably Sunday 10th. Had dinner with Eddy, John and Vance.
