Maps and Mileages

We truly don’t know how Hall figured out how many miles he traveled by ship, train, motor vehicle, bicycle, or on foot. He is often quite specific about his mileages—sometimes down to the quarter-mile—but the maps that he brought home with him wouldn’t have furnished him with such exact figures. We’ll just take his word that he’s correct—it’s the easiest thing to do.

Each of the journals had a page or so devoted to destinations, waypoints, and cumulative mileages. Because they were so important to him, here they are. At the very least, they define his route although he’s left out a few countries such as Yugo-Slavia and Monaco.
