My fortunes changed today and I had letters from Jean and Hory. Called at the Massagerie Maritime offices to see if they had a ship leaving soon, but none for Hongkong till the 31st, and second class is 75 of these dollars—there is no third class, only fourth or steerage. Thus I must go by the Chinese boat at all costs.
This is a gala night for Saigon. Besides the movie, there is some affair on at the Municipal Theatre, a prize fight or wrestling bout I guess. At any rate, everybody is all dressed up and promenading the streets till things start.
Nothing new—even the soup continues to be loaded with bread as always.
